| Foundation Announces June Grants |

The Initiative Foundation announced that it has awarded 31 community grants totaling $146,700. The following organizations were selected as grant recipients:
Brainerd Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce; Bridges Workplace Connection ($10,000) - to ensure a viable workforce for the 21st century based on targeted needs within the Brainerd Lakes area, in partnership with five school districts and Central Lakes College. Contact: Lisa Paxton, (218) 822-7111.
Brainerd School District Community Education; Brainerd Lakes Area Early Childhood Coalition ($10,000) - to continue early childhood coalition projects/programs that work toward promoting a healthy start for our youngest children and their families in the Brainerd Lakes area. Central Minnesota Workforce Center, Monticello; Business Resource Directory ($5,000) - to provide supportfor a comprehensive guide to economic development, finance, education, workforce development and government resources for businesses in the Central Minnesota Workforce Service Area 5. Child Care Choices, Inc., St. Cloud; Reason For Hope Retreat ($1,500) - to hold a yearly weekend retreat for parents and caregivers having or caring for a child or adult with a disability. Contact: Renee Hendricks, (320) 251-5081.
City of Burtrum; Wastewater Treatment Planning ($10,000) - to support an evaluation of wastewater treatment needs and options. The goal of this U.S. Department of Agriculture - Rural Development funded program is to help rural, low-income communities make informed choices about wastewater technologies in order to provide effective but affordable sewage treatment. Kinship Partners, Inc., Brainerd; Adult Mentor Recruitment ($2,500) - to recruit, register and retain qualified mentors. Contact: David Downing, (218) 829-4606.
Lutheran Social Services, Crosslake; Caregiver Respite and Support ($5,000) - to provide mileage reimbursement to Americorps - LegacyCorps members so they can provide respite service to caregivers. Contact: Bridget Allen, (651) 642-5990.
Milaca Public Schools; "Give Me Five" Mentor Program ($5,000) - to support a youth mentoring program that involves the local community including parents of the students involved in the program. Contact: Barbra Zakrajsek, (320) 982-7191.
Minnesota Humanities Center, St. Paul; Reading with Dad Initiative ($5,000) - to support the development and implementation of a Dad's and Early Childhood Literacy workshop, for educators, social service providers, early childhood coalitions and others, in order to implement a series of Fathers Reading Every Day (FRED) events in the Foundation's 14-county service area. Morrison County, Little Falls; Methane Digester Feasibility Study ($10,000) - to support a feasibility study of a methane generator and distribution from a Morrison County dairy operation. Contact: Russ Nygren, (320) 632-0132.
Mounted Eagles, Inc., Motley; Ridership Funding in Brainerd Lakes Area ($4,000) - to provide riderships for therapeutic horseback riding program. Contact: Aggie Stroot, (218) 764-2237.

Region 5 Child Care Resource and Referral, New York Mills; Family Child Care Mentoring ($5,000) - to develop mentoring program through which new child care providers benefit from expertise of local, experienced providers in order to raise the quality of care and increase stability in the industry. St. Gabriel's Hospital, Little Falls; Families and Schools Together ($5,000) - to support costs associated with certifying a local trainer in the FAST program in order to allow more efficient and cost effective expansion of the program. Contact: Carl Vaagenes, (320) 632-5441.
ANDERSON BROTHERS FAMILY FUND Anderson Brothers Family Fund, a donor-advised fund, established by James and Linnea Anderson, announced the following grant awards:

Northland Area Family Services, Longville; Tossed and Found Boutique ($2,500) - to provide support for expanding volunteer training so that the Tossed and Found Boutique thrift store can expand its hours and services and support the local food shelf operation. GREATER PINE AREA FOUNDATION The Greater Pine Area Endowment, a component fund of the Initiative Foundation, announced the following grant awards:

STAPLES COMMUNITY FOUNDATION The Staples Community Foundation, a component fund of the Initiative Foundation, announced the following grant awards:
Hazel Dell Library, Motley; Library Insulation, Safety ($2,000) - for improvements to a local, volunteer-run library to make it more comfortable in cooler weather and to provide handicapped access. Contact: Suzanne Lund, (218) 397-2355.

JOSH RICHARDSON YOUTH ARTS FUND The Josh Richardson Youth Arts Fund, an affiliated fund of Three Rivers Community Foundation and component fund of the Initiative Foundation, was created to honor Josh Richardson’s memory by providing opportunities for youth within the Three Rivers area to experience and participate in the Arts. The Josh Richardson Youth Arts Fund announced the following grant awards:

Command Performance Choirs, Elk River; Command Performance Girls' Choir ($1,000) - to provide scholarship dollars for girls who can't afford the cost of joining this community choir. Contact: Melissa Nelson, (763) 360-6193.
Rogers School District; Guest Artist from the Clay Empire ($1,500) - to support costs of a visiting artist who will teach a specialized clay-firing process in an art class. Contact: Susan Sebghati, (763) 241-3400.
The Initiative Foundation seeks projects that strengthen central Minnesota communities and address barriers to economic development. Inquiries for applications are accepted on an ongoing basis and are generally reviewed within 14 days of receipt.
