As a recently elected official (Baxter City Council), I want to be able to contribute a younger generation's voice into discussions about current and future planning of the city. What would you hope to gain from the Emerging Leaders Program?
I would love the opportunity to be a part of a continuing improvement within our community, the chance to have those connections and really make things happen, to become more of an achiever rather than a dreamer. I want to see Long Prairie thrive with opportunities for local families and children, in businesses and in tourism.

What do you see as your role in contributing to your community over time?
I really want to see an increase in young families choosing Long Prairie as their home rather than moving away to raise a family. I have watched families move into the area and choose other nearby towns even if they work in Long Prairie, for various reasons. I want to see the town grow in what it offers to young families. I would love to see a boost in tourism in the town, to provide a reason that people want to visit and see all we have to offer them, and to see the pride the citizens of Long Prairie have in their community. Recently I was researching the history of our town for a geocache that I placed. I came across an article in the Long Prairie Leader from 1903 when the Hotel Reichert was rebuilt after a fire. It claimed that the credit is due to, among other things, "that spirit of loyalty and local pride among the people of our village." It stated, "It is the spirit which has caused Long Prairie to attain its present reputation as one of the best and most progressive towns in Central Minnesota, and the spirit which will keep making it better and larger and more prosperous." These lines inspire me to see big things happen in this little town. I feel like I can be one of the people to make that true again.

Fun Fact: I am passionate about new experiences and causes, for myself or for others—from bringing an entire geocaching program to Long Prairie to coaching youth hockey, from hosting exchange students to teaching color guard for the high school marching band, from teaching community ed classes or vacation bible school or girl scouts, to bringing our family to every state park in Minnesota. I love to get people out and involved in everything life has to offer.

What would you hope to gain from the Emerging Leaders Program?
My main objective in participating in the Emerging Leaders program is to gain the necessary skills to be a strong and confident leader that others want to follow. I hope to build on my foundation of skills and abilities from previous work, volunteer and personal experiences to ultimately make my living by fulfilling my passion of supporting and advocating for our local service members and their families.

What do you see as your role in contributing to your community over time?
I have a large grand plan that involves multiple offshoots. It's a business/non-profit involving military service members and their families, a farm, therapeutic work on the farm, vocational building skills, a country store/CSA. At the same time, provide for recreational activities by creating a sort of USO at a lake (like airport USOs where you get to relax and hang out, enjoy complimentary snacks, learn about the area you're visiting - but provide a spot for boat owners to put in their boat, relax, recreation for the family for the day for free.) I'd like to see that Plan come to life.

Top Five Strengths: Empathy, Relator, Responsibility, Connectedness, Intellection

Fun Fact: My ultimate home life goal is to live on a farm complete with crops, equipment, animals, and barns—despite having zero experience with any type of real farm life.

Top Five Strengths: Learner, Intellection, Connectedness, Ideation, Responsibility

Fun Fact: I spent my junior year of high school in Auckland, New Zealand, as a Rotary Youth Exchange student. There, I met friends from around the world that I'm still in contact with, along with many from New Zealand. I also got to experience a culture that was closer to its Westernization, so the repercussions were more prevalent. While still a minority, Maori culture was very visible in the culture and in government.

However, I know I am approaching a point at which I can clearly identify and express my own ideas for the future of my community.
