Community Conversation About Childhood

March 24, 2014

The Elk River Area Early Childhood Coalition, Independent School District 728 and the Elk River Area Chamber of Commerce are proud to present another “Getting Ready to Read & Write” event on Thursday, April 3, featuring Katy Smith, Minnesota's 2011 Teacher of the Year.

"The Secret to School Success: What Everyone Can Do to Help Children Succeed in School and Life" will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Handke Center Gym. (Directions)

At this Initiative Foundation co-sponsored event, Smith will explore what parents/caregivers can do to ensure young children enter kindergarten ready to learn and be successful. She will address learning through daily routines, research on parent involvement and parental guilt as well as other school readiness topics. For more than 25 years, Smith has worked with families, educators and businesses to help build stronger, more vital communities.

Childcare is available for $5 per child and requires pre-registration. To register for childcare please call (763) 241-3400, ext. 5528.
