Hundreds Join Celebration, Gain Inspiration to Bring Positive Change to Region

The Initiative Foundation, its staff and trustees would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the hundreds of individuals who joined us during a series of October luncheons held in Braham, St. Joseph and Brainerd to celebrate Growing Home in Central Minnesota.

From the Women in Welding program at Pine Technical and Community College to the Initiators Fellowship celebrated at our St. Joseph luncheon to the Key Recruitment Program led by the Brainerd Lakes Area Economic Development Corporation (BLAEDC), our keynote speakers provided audiences with plenty to cheer about.

  • A special thanks to Heidi Braun, workforce development director at Pine Technical and Community College, and welding student Natasha Fuller for enlightening us at our Braham luncheon about the reach and impact of the Initiative Foundation-supported welding program and mobile welding lab.
  • Thanks, too, to Rick Bauerly of Granite Equity Partners and Hudda Ibrahim of Filsan Consultant for sharing with our St. Joseph audience the leadership and community benefits of the Initiators Fellowship.
  • And a big thanks to Sheila Haverkamp of BLAEDC and Tom Haglin, owner of LINDAR and Avantech in Brainerd, for enlightening our audience about the Key Recruitment Program and the vital role it plays in a tight labor market.

"There’s so much good to be found, if you know where to look for it," said Matt Varilek, Initiative Foundation president. "The message from these three luncheons is really quite simple: Let's keep it growing. Stay involved in your communities. Volunteer in your churches. Reach out to your nonprofits. Continue to be generous with your time, talent and resources. That's the best way we can all come together with a Growing Home focus in Central Minnesota."
