About H. Eugene Menzel
H. Eugene Menzel, a graduate of the Aitkin High School class of 1952, was the oldest in a family of four. He learned to appreciate the value of hard work as a young man while working on the family farm. He married Betty Ford in 1956. Over the course of their more than 50-year marriage, the Menzel family remained close to the Aitkin area. He stressed the importance of education to his own three children and remained committed to the Aitkin area throughout his career at Collins Radio and Control Data.
"The H. Eugene Menzel Scholarship honors this remarkable man by providing a hand up to those students who may not have earned academic honors, but have nonetheless realized their potential through hard work, 'stick-to-it-iveness' and servant leadership," said Kristi Ackley, community philanthropy specialist with the Initiative Foundation.
